Ottawa Architects Invite Sean Lundy To Present On "Sustainable Redevelopment Of The Built Environment"

On October 7th, Sean Lundy made a presentation at the National Arts Center to an audience oflocal architects on the sustainable redevelopment of the built environment.

Lundy Construction introduced Green Energy Performance Contracting (GEPC) into the Ottawa building rejuvenation market. GEPC allows a client to leverage money saved on energy and operating costs to pay for sustainable building improvements with guaranteed energy savings.

The presentation identified the key business drivers, the benefits of sustainable improvements to owners and tenants, and the Lundy Approach. Lundy focuses on the financial side of sustainability when talking to owners, property managers and landlords, and Sean highlighted the benefits to owners when sustainable initiatives are incorporated into a building rejuvenation program.

The Lundy Approach benefits both owner and occupant through an integrated design process and, in fact, provides the owner with a clear and attainable path to LEED® certification.

M.P. Lundy Construction puts the client experience first

Construction is invariably difficult, disruptive and stressful. At M.P. Lundy Construction, getting the job done on time and on budget is only part of the equation. Freeing the clients of the pain and stress they would otherwise experience, even engendering enjoyment at seeing a dream become reality, is a shared vision that governs every aspect of the business.

“I call it the ‘third dimension of our business’ – how the customer experiences the process of us building for them,” said CEO Sean Lundy. “The first two dimensions being the expertise and services that we offer.”

The best possible construction experience begins with a strong team spirit of innovation, collaboration and common purpose.

“Our team is proactive, disciplined and capable of rapidly adapting to our client’s evolving needs,” said Lundy. “The skills, performance and well-being of our employees differentiate us from the competition. We work hard to support our employee’s professional development and to ensure their satisfaction and loyalty, which I believe, translates into satisfied and loyal clients.”

M.P. Lundy Construction takes a “start late, finish early” philosophy, meaning the team does the research, planning and client consultation necessary to deliver a quality project before a shovel hits the ground. This ensures a project proceeds smoothly, stays on schedule and, most importantly, yields a predictable outcome for the client.

The senior management team has gone through the rigorous process to all become LEED Accredited Professionals in order to help clients develop sustainable projects that fit their budgets, through Lundy’s Green Energy Performance Contracting initiative.

“This initiative makes us unique in the Ottawa area,” said Lundy. “Our singular goal is to be a leader in providing innovative and sustainable construction solutions for our clients and creating the best possible construction experience.”

M.P. Lundy Construction specializes in complex and unique projects of $500,000 to $20 million. To learn more, please visit www.mplundy.com or call 613-233-8484.

LEED® Hat Trick

Our customers consistently tell us that great value on a construction project includes finding the right balance between the initial capital cost of their project and the cost to operate the building over time.

More than ever before, we are engaging with building owners on questions of lifecycle costing, building efficiency, building durability, and sustainability vs. upfront costs.

Having built Ottawa’s first LEED® Gold Certified building (RVCA Headquarters) and Ottawa’s first Green Energy Performance Contract Renovation (473 Albert Street), we have had the benefit of lots of experience working with our clients to determine the right capital/green
dollar balance. This balance varies from one project to another, and we are committed to listening to our customers so we can truly understand this equation.

To further demonstrate this commitment, we set out this year to become the only construction firm in Ottawa whose entire executive team has earned LEED® Accredited Professional status. As of December 2009, we did it! Gina Courtland, Don Anderson, and Sean Lundy are all now LEED® AP.

Even if you aren’t interested in LEED® certification for your new or existing building, the Lundy executive team is ready to work with you to help you determine which sustainability initiatives will work for your project, lowering your cost of ownership and operation—and raising your profile in your customer’s eyes.

Lundy Construction is proud of our highly professional staff, whose consistent efforts have earned this recognition.

“What I like most about this award is that it honours our company as a whole - this award does not belong to any one person and would not be possible without the success of the team.  As a company, we are on a continual path of improvement and this award confirms to me that we are on the right track.“

Lundy Wins 1st OGCA Project Award of Excellence

On September 24, 2009, Lundy Construction was awarded the 1st Annual Ontario General Contractors Association Project Award of Excellence for The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) Centre.

This environmentally responsible project is a $5.7 million, 20,677-sq.ft. office and public service facility located just south of downtown Ottawa.

In the RVCA’s commitment to lead by example, this environmental protection and advisory agency wanted to relocate its previously-dispersed staff into a “green” building – one that saves energy, improves efficiency, reduces waste and promotes a healthy working environment. The result is an exemplary project that made history as Eastern Ontario’s first public LEED Gold building.

The RVCA’s initial target was to obtain LEED Silver certification under challenging budget constraints. Through the efforts of the integrated project team led by Lundy, and a tremendous amount of upfront planning and innovative thinking, the project was delivered on schedule, on budget - and instead of Silver, LEED Gold certification was achieved!

Announcement: Beechwood Team Receives National Design Award

Canadian Wood Council 2008 Ontario Wood Works! Award Winners
Institutional Wood Design, less than $10 million
Beechwood National Memorial Centre,
Ottawa, ON

This past Fall, we were thrilled to be recognized with an award from the Canadian Wood Council for our Beechwood National Memorial Centre project. There were many outstanding entries in our category from all over Canada. The awards gala gave us our “15 minutes of fame” and topped off a wonderful experience building one of Canada’s newest landmarks honouring the lives of all Canadians.

Wood was used throughout the design, both for structural as well as aesthetic purposes. The design of the multi-faith sacred space derives its inspiration from the geometry of nature. Branching, glue-laminated Douglas fir structural members evoke trees and upswept arms. Articulated wood panels finished the interior and provide acoustical control. Black walnut, oak and pine wood harvested from the site was milled to serve as various trim elements, paired with oak plywood.
