Hunt Cub Honda, underwent a complete renovation of its existing 15000 ft² facility and a new addition of 15,500 ft². Dealership owner, Carl Sytema, says he went into the renovation program with two major concerns:
- Reconciling the requirements of the Honda Image Program with the need to update the basic design and infrastructure to create a cutting-edge, full-service dealership.
- Somehow keep the new car sales and car service bays operating during construction.
The design team at David Mailing Architect Inc., led by Jim Bell, worked closely with Owner to solve the first concern. To address the second, Mr. Sytema looked to Lundy as the “go-to” construction firm for complex projects requiring operational capability during construction and retained us early in the conceptual design process as Construction Manager.
Extensive up-front planning and coordination were required to allow for continuous operation of Service and Sales within the existing building, while parts and Service Administration were relocated to temporary facilities corrected on-site. Working together with Carl, Paul Sytema and their department managers, Lundy team leaders Gina Courtland, John Dingemans, and Darren Burke created a detail plan to execute the aggressive construction program while maintaining “business and usual” customer service capabilities for the dealership. Lundy support included facilitating numerous meetings with the staff to identify and create relocation plans and implementation scheduling that provided for the safety of the employees and customers. Weekly meetings and daily coordination on the site ensure that Hunt Club Honda continues to serve its customers under these challenging circumstances.
“We are now about 50% complete, and we are very glad we selected Lundy Construction. They have lived up to their reputation and our sales and service operations have been able to serve our customers without interruption.”
