Five Months from Plan to Reality
Early in November 1999, Air Canada, in partnership with M. P. Lundy Construction, unveiled the latest Maple Leaf Lounge at Ottawa International Airport. Only five months after ground was broken, the 10,000 square foot airside addition opened its stainless steel doors to executive and first-class passengers.
The lounge commands a panoramic view of runway activity while enveloping clients in a breathtaking surrounding of leather, mahogany, glass, marble and stainless steel. The finished lounge, designed by Peter Williams Architect and Heekyung Duquette Interior Design, has delighted Air Canada executives and passengers alike.
The new lounge is nestled between gates 16 and 18 and also houses Air Canada’s baggage-handling operation on the ground floor.
For the Lundy team, coordination with the airline’s busy flight schedule meant that cranes, hydraulic shovels, and concrete trucks had to be maneuvered around an hourly turnover of airbuses at both gates.
Lundy Construction's on-site team was lead by veteran gold seal site superintendent, Bob Seiler. He successfully shouldered the responsibility for all field coordination while ensuring that Air Canada’s daily operations carried on without a single delay.
