Ruddy Family Centre Y
Completed in March, 2011, this 18,000SF addition to the YMCA/YWCA, located in Orleans, includes two pools, a full-size gymnasium,and a new lobby, carefully designed to visually interconnect all of the spaces. The existing 2- storey 14,000SF facility was renovated to create new offices, multipurpose rooms, play care spaces, upgraded men’s & women’s change rooms / showers, a family change room with private showers, and a newly expanded fitness area.
The project featured an exciting innovation: A 20m long swimming pool with a moveable floor system - a first in Eastern Ontario. It allows the Y staff to adjust the pool depth in minutes according to the type of program taking place. The pool can have full depth lane swimming in the morning, shallow water exercise classes at noon, and be adjusted again to accommodate toddler swims in the afternoon. Also included is a separate warm water therapy pool with water features for kids and a deeper section with benches and jets for adults.
