British High Commission

This high-security building rejuvenation upgraded the British High Commission with state of the art security systems, first class finishes, and a modern, efficient layout throughout the entire facility. The challenges of working in a high-security building were compounded by the need to maintain building occupancy and operations throughout construction.

Lundy established and oversaw a complex phasing schedule to allow for maximum facility operation while maintaining the highest health and safety standards and keeping strictly to budget and schedule.

Contract    Stipulated price

Contract    $10,224,000

Contract Start   August 2008

Completion    November 2009

Relevance to project

  • Extensive mechanical retrofit in occupied building

Constructability Issues

  • All onsite workers were required to obtain security clearance to work in this highly sensitive building. Lundy coordinated and monitored all security clearances to ensure that each subcontractor and all site staff were able to gain access to the site when they were needed.
  • The building remained operational throughout the construction phase, making the health and safety of the building’s occupants a primary concern for the construction team. Lundy staff met regularly with management to discuss upcoming developments, allowing occupants ample time to vacate spaces scheduled for work.
