William E. Hay Youth Centre

This secure custody facility expansion was designed by Barry J. Hobin Architect. The facility, which serves youth aged 12 – 17 detained or serving a sentence, was expanded to house 16 more young people, for a total of 40. This project required complex phasing to assure the safety of residents and staff and to maintain the facility’s operational functionality during construction.

In January 2009, Alex Munter, Director Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa, presented an award of appreciation to Sean Lundy and M.P. Lundy Construction recognizing our leadership in bringing the William E. Hay expansion project to a timely and successful completion.

Note: As this is a secure facility, actual photos of the structure are prohibited

Constructability Solutions

  • Security was tantamount to the success of this project - Lundy oversaw an extensive security program requiring all persons accessing the site to be admitted to a list of approved personnel and security issues were discussed at every meeting with the Owners
  • The project required a complex phasing schedule that involved moving occupants of the facility into completed areas safely and securely - Lundy oversaw this schedule on a day-to-day, and sometimes hour-to-hour, basis
