This 18,000ft² addition to the Orleans YMCA/YWCA features two pools, a full-size gymnasium, and new lobby. In conjunction with the addition, the existing two-storey 14,000ft²facility was also extensively renovated to create new offices, multipurpose rooms, day care spaces, upgraded men’s and women’s change rooms, and a newly expanded fitness area. This project included an exciting innovation: A 20m long swimming pool with a moveable floor system to allow full flexibility of programming – a first in Eastern Ontario.
Lundy elected to use a MUROX building system to improve the schedule by one month and meet the sustainability targets of the Client group. During all phases of construction, the facility remained operational and open to the public. Delivered using a Design/Build approach, the Lundy team assisted the YMCA management in overcoming issues related to delayed municipal approvals and subsequently orchestrated the work to ensure the facility was opened on time.
